Milkby products are an excellent source of lysine, vitamins and minerals, notably calcium and phosphorus. In addition they are highly palatable and digestible. For these reasons are they excellent protein supplements for growing equines.
Most commercial feeds specially formulated for foals will contain milk-by products.
Mature horses may develop diarrhea and digestive upset when fed milk-by products. This is because mature horses lack the enzyme lactase, which is necessary for digestion of lactose (milk sugar).
